LALH Welcomes Sarah Allaback
An architectural historian, Allaback previously worked for the Historic American Buildings Survey, the Historic American Engineering Record, and as a consultant for the National Park Service. She is the author of The First American Women Architects (University of Illinois Press, 2008), “Mission 66 Visitor Centers: The History of a Building Type” (Government Printing Office, 2000), and several articles on early nineteenth-century American design education and architectural history writing. She is currently working on a National Historic Landmark nomination for the Ames Monument near Laramie, Wyoming, in collaboration with James F. O’Gorman and Ethan Carr. Allaback holds an A.B. from Princeton University and a Ph.D. from M.I.T.
When asked what she likes best about her new position, Allaback said, “I find it very rewarding to work for an organization with the foresight to create books that contribute to the historical record. In a world where novelty is so highly valued, LALH publishes scholarship on the American landscape that will never go out of fashion, and it’s exciting to be part of this effort.”
