COMMUNITY BY DESIGN IS ONLINE!

The latest LALH film, Community by Design: The Olmsted Firm and the Development of Brookline, Massachusetts, is now available to view online.

Based on the LALH book by Keith N. Morgan, Elizabeth Hope Cushing, and Roger G. Reed, Community by Design tells the story of the Olmsted firm’s move to “the richest town in the world” in 1883 and its subsequent development of the prosperous Boston suburb. With Brookline as their laboratory, the Olmsteds received over 150 local commissions, experimenting with the new field of city and regional planning as they designed cities and suburbs across America.

Produced by LALH in association with Florentine Films/Hott Productions, Inc., Community by Design is the fourth film in the LALH series, North America by Design. The documentary was made possible through the generous support of dozens of private contributors, the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities, and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects.

Organizations or educators wishing to borrow a high resolution DVD copy for screening may email their request to Jane Roy Brown.
