A BOSTON BOOK LAUNCH FOR SHURCLIFF
Wednesday, November 12, 2014 | Posted by lalh
The most recent LALH title, Arthur A. Shurcliff: Design, Preservation, and the Creation of the Colonial Williamsburg Landscape, receives a proper Boston send-off on Wednesday, December 3, when author Elizabeth Hope Cushing lectures at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. Cushing’s talk, “Arthur Shurcliff: From Boston to Colonial Williamsburg,” illuminates how his early work in Boston and Ipswich, Massachusetts, prepared the landscape architect and preservationist Arthur A. Shurcliff (1870–1957) for his biggest project, the landscape of Colonial Williamsburg. This design, begun in 1928, remains one of the most important examples of the American Colonial Revival landscape. A reception and book signing follow the 6:00 p.m. lecture, which takes place in the Hunnewell Building.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so register in advance online, or call 617-384-5277. LALH, the Boston Society of Landscape Architects, the Friends of Fairsted, the Esplanade Association, and the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University are cosponsors.
