In much of the country April marks the real start of spring, when many city dwellers most appreciate their parks.

The timing is perfect to celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture and the parks movement in particular, who was born on April 26, 1822. Throughout the country (and in Montreal), Olmsted parks organizations are hosting a month-long party, with tours, games, and other festivities.

Some highlights include:

April 9 – Be “HAPPY” and Come Dance in the Olmsted Parks!, Cherokee and Iroquois Parks, Seattle, WA.

April 12 – The Muddy River: Past, Present & Future, Shattuck Visitor Center, 125 Fenway, Boston, MA.

April 23 – Film Premiere: Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA.

April 24 – The Cherry Blossom Ball, Delaware Park, Buffalo, NY.

Find out what’s happening where you live by visiting the list of member organizations of the National Association for Olmsted Parks online.
