COMMUNITY BY DESIGN FILM PREMIERE ROCKS THE ARSENAL

Wednesday, November 12, 2014 | Posted by lalh

A late-October premiere of the latest LALH film, Community by Design: The Olmsted Firm and the Development of Brookline, Massachusetts, drew a celebratory crowd at the historic Arsenal building in New York’s Central Park. An online September campaign raised funds to underwrite the film. Thank you to all you made contributions!

Based on the LALH book of the same title, the twelve-minute film tells the story of how the firm founded by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. guided the development of Brookline, which proved to be a design laboratory for the many other American suburbs and towns. A lecture by the book’s lead author, Keith Morgan, and a reception followed the screening.

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the Central Park Conservancy co-hosted the premiere with LALH.  LALH films are available to view, free of charge, at www.lalh.org/films. Community by Design will be posted in January 2015. Organizations or educators wishing to borrow a high-resolution DVD copy for screenings may email Jane Roy Brown.
